So This Is Christmas?
Like the title of John Lennon's Christmas song I can't help but think about the suffering of so many children on our planet, especially today. How is one suppose to look the other way, or justify the killing of 35,000 children every day on Earth? That's children dying of war, poverty, starvation, and a lack of simple medicines. Things we in the First world wouldn't let our pets go without. In spite of these facts the fastest growing International business is the "Sex Tourism." Yes, men from around the world travelling to Third world countries to have sex with children. Girls and boys as young as 11 are sold into the sex slave industry because their parents (if they already haven't died from Aids or starvation) are starving. In the midst of this suffering governments allow this to happen. I wonder where our priorities have gone, our sense of moral decency, our sense of outrage, etc.. To allow genocide to be committed in Darfur where women are raped and murdered daily, children are killed/starved, and the United Nations says nothing, but the USA could invade countries to secure oil supplies and other American Emperailist interests without UN support. Another huge profit maker for the USA and other First World countries is the making and sales of weapons. And then a person like John Lennon who openly spoke out against war, poverty, patriarchy, and capitalism was considered a radical. He was a person who believed in the altruistic meanings of Peace & Love to the point where it cost him his life. Soon the tinsel, christmas lights, decorations, social consciences, cheer, will be put away again for yet another year. Unfortunately homelessness, war, dying children, global warming, will continue to be a reality. In Lennon's song "War is Over If you want it to be" So this is Christmas...In order to put an end to injustices one has to be prepared to stand up for justice...is that you brothers & sisters...what role will you play in all this when it unfolds? But first, the blinders must fall. Peace & Love.
The game Plan
Constant surveillance
watching eyes in the (dis)skies
high tech satellites
freedom by stealth
Foucault warnings
fall on deaf ears
seeing is (dis)believing
monitoring emotions
not to cause commotions
rock not that gentle boat
skim the water
rowing in perfect unison
the battle is won that way
look after number one
be warned...you must conform!
learn the lessons well
keep your head down
and look the other way
find comfort in the status quo
a meager pension awaits you
follow the rules and question not
kindergarden comrades
later become old folks
whiling away the hours
wondering where time has gone
one-day we were finger painting
with joy in our hearts
and then it was over
now we are here
so much living missed in between
i was going to be a poet, a lover, a world traveler
but instead conformed
to covert messages
and i'm reminded of what I gave away
every single day
the watchers smile and wave
from satellities and illusionary castles
a million miles away.
